I’m an accidental agency owner, having started out on a freelance copywriting career in 2011 because I wanted more variety and to be able to walk my two kids to school. With both kids now teens (and towering over me) I decided to expand my freelance plus friends model into a more formal agency structure. Wordsmiths and Awards Writers operate as two separate brands, with the same core team and a selection of friends on the stable associate team who deliver for clients. Partnering with other creative agencies and working directly for corporate and large SME clients as the resident words whizzes is what keeps us busy.
I’m a words geek, and known for bringing Glory through stories™ to our clients – whether that’s securing them an award win or with words that work on their latest project. With a 13-year career in PR and communications in the public and private sector behind me before I set up alone, I know what a story looks like (because journalists tell you pretty fast when you don’t have one) and we bring this storytelling approach to all our work.
The world of awards is something I’m immersed in, having written a book about how to write winning entries, delivered training to hundreds of communications and HR professionals, set up several awards programmes and judged on a range of national awards. I’ve built an Awards Writers team which has proved we know what a great award entry is – >80% of entries we’ve written claiming a place on the shortlist since 2011. With 252 years of professional writing experience on the broader Wordsmiths team, it’s no surprise we’re drafted in to provide copy support to clients across the UK.
